As you all know, I accepted the role of President of my homeschool co-op/support group, Umoja Christian Homeschool Network (UCHN). The organization is young and the people are awesome, but do they really want my off-the-wall/meet the needs of the people/high standard having self as their humble leader? Well, they all say Yes, but today is the day.
I spent all summer working with the former President, who is probably my twin in another life, trying to see what it is the group needed as our children are getting older. See, homeschooling a 5 year old is different from homeschooling an 8 year old which is REAL different from homeschooling a 14 year old. Every family has a different need and has different gifts to bring to the table. That’s what I do–stir up the gifts. It’s not an easy task.
I guess stretching people is neveer an easy task. I mean, I don’t like being stretched, but I do look forward to every new challenge, so how do I get people to like the stretch? Well, I think I’ve figured out, but I can’t share my secrets to the masses (remeber that Calgon commercial: “Ancient Chinese Secret , my dear.” Wasn’t that Calgon?) Anyway, our group has gone through a lot of changes and with changes come challenges. Am I up for the challenge? I’m sitting here biting nails and banging my head up against the wall trying to make sure that I remember everything that I’m responsible for and not responsible for, but will pick up the slack. Books on bugs for the study on insects. Check. The portable copier so that people can make copies for their lessons. Check. The planners that we use as a fundraiser at the beginning of the year. Check. The music CD and the copies of the lyrics for the choir. Check. Lunches and snacks for all of the kids and for me. Check. Illicit drugs/wine/cigarette. Darn…don’t have any on hand, but will probably be in desperate need of these items after today.
Wish me luck, yall. Wish me a lot of luck. Oh, just pray. A Lot.
Just sent up a prayer for you now. A blessed and beautiful homeschooling year is coming your way.
